4:09 pm - The Mountains
Ian, Alex and Betty had pooled their money and resources, Rafe had a stock pile of weapons, which they loaded into a truck and Alex headed for the mountains.

The area was Will Bell's territory.

Alex had collected enough cash to pay for things they might need. He'd need Will to marshall his firefighters, but at least they'd be well armed, with Mafia weapons. Alex had collected the notes Betty had stolen from the police and he tried to remember anything important about the area.

The Prince and the Duke had headed out over the mountains. He'd seen Will leading Tab Palaug and Cris Weddo out and hoped the other group would find their way back, catching them. He didn't like the idea of the monarchy being drug back down for execution. He wondered where Grace was.

He hunkered down into rat form and checked out the area. He hoped Will would be back soon. He'd need him to lead the area.

3:58 pm - The Valley
Janes car drove away from the city. She'd listened to Simon's airplane in the night sky as long as she could, but the noise was gone now. The valley was still green, rows of fruit trees and fields of crops waved hopefully in the wind. Moonlight shone over road. She wished she was back in the city, she had connections in Downtown, that she was certain she could use better than anyone else.

Her purse was fat with cash. Marina Hakuchou sat beside her in the car. Marina should have left the city. When the Nazis arrived, they would surely kill her. She seemed calm, relaxed and ready to meet her fate. She watched the crops go by. "I didn't think anything grew here." She commented.

Behind them they could hear a race car speeding up, burning rubber as it zipped past Jane's sturdy FORD. Mason waved, moving in beside her car. They turned into the heart of the valley, an army was waiting there, as promised. Her headlights shone on young men and women with zip guns, chains and knives, ready for her to lead them.

They wouldn't have supplies, just Marina's notes about the enemy, and Mason's basic training. She wished he hadn't dropped out of medical school.

She left the car, Marina and Mason flanking her. She looked into the darkness for the leader of this army, this Anointed Army. Clarice Conselheiro had made the arrangements for them to work for them.

"Hi, I'm Jane Leda. I'm here to get us organized." She began recounting what she knew about the Nazis moving through San Diego.

"I'm Appollina. These are my people." A glowing blond woman emerged from their number. "They follow me, now that my brother Kristos is dead."

Jane stared at Kristos sister. This was not going to be easy. Unconsciously, Mason and Marina moved a little closer to Jane, protectively.

3:48 pm - South Bay by night
Ian watched Betty through his rear view mirror until he saw her change into her fox form and scurry away. He hated leaving her. War was everywhere. He hoped he wouldn't see her again in a detainment center. He'd been planning for all of this, in case it came to pass, but not for Betty to be here. Not to leave her in charge of South Los Angeles.

He wasn't going to stop worrying about her.

He pulled off the road at his safe house and pulled out his cash, checking it to make sure he had what he needed. He shoved it into his pocket and moved to the harbor, looking for his pactmate Bella's ship. Her pirates were armed and ready to fight. They'd start at the shore.

In the distance he saw a light, a woman with ashen skin and long dark hair moved toward him, in the darkness her arms swirled around her and the shadows played tricks as if she had eight arms. She moved closer and it was no illusion. She wore a small skull around her neck. Vama, just as the Anointed had promised, with intelligence on the area.

They stood in the shadows as Bella's ship anchored and began pouring over maps.

As Bella's men jumped down from her ship, he wished he had a doctor. He'd sent them out to other areas. Bella was going to lose someone she cared about tonight. Maybe they all would. Betty didn't have any doctors either.

Vama was staring at him. In the darkness her eyes glittered and he felt himself shudder involuntarily. Something was wrong. Death was here. He could feel his shadow as if the night had grown darker in that second.

3:36 pm - South Los Angeles
Ian was counseling her in the car as they drove to South Los Angeles. She tried not to be irritated. Yes, he was older. Yes, he thought he knew better. He was using that tone she hated, the know-it all one. She gritted her teeth and tried to listen. He was giving her a chance. A big chance. He was trusting her to hold a big part of the city. She'd be the leader. All alone.

He was handing her cash now, and she counted it. Listening to all the things she would need to use it for.

She pulled out a map from the glove box and they started brainstorming which areas were trouble. Where she'd need to break into for information. How to get control of the city. She started circling things with her lipstick.

He told her not to worry about the army, Maddie Beowulf and her lycanthropes would fight, they were already armed and ready. She just needed to coordinate.

She sat back in her seat. She wasn't going to be by herself. She wasn't really in charge. She was being given a glorified position and being babysat by Maddie and her crew.

She kicked his car. She wanted to go back to Thomas.

They turned the corner and she could see a toppled police car, Maddie's lycanthropes struggling against them, using their fists, chains, and pipes. Police men were every where, their eyes glowing obscenely in the light, too blue, as the storms raged over head.

Her hand shook on the door handle. She felt Ian's hand cover hers. "Come back with me to South Bay Betty." He whispered.

"This is chaos." She whispered. "I can help here."

She looked up at him, afraid.

He nodded. "Is this is what you want to do?"

"I have to don't I?" She said, more firmly, opening the door. Her heels hit the concrete, a little noise among the sounds of war.

"I will come for you, as soon as I can." Ian assured her, and himself. He moved the car back into drive.

She turned, looking over her shoulder at him. "Maybe I'll come for you Ian." She laughed and moved into the fray. She could see the Beowulf sword flashing in the night.

"I'm here Maddie!" She yelled.

Maddie nodded. "How many more are coming?" She yelled back, intently hacking.

"I don't know... but I will."

Betty passed an alley and hunkered down, changing into her fox form and running through the street, faster, free, looking nothing like a target. She scurried off, counting cop cars.

3:21 pm - Downtown
Thomas Wallace didn't like leaving Betty Todd. He grabbed her hand and put her into Mason's car, he'd keep her safe. Princess Grace Hathor was somewhere, maybe on her way to Vegas, safe he hoped. He hadn't seen Victor Lamia so he assumed he'd taken Grace to safety. He hoped the pact could stay together.

The pact had pooled their cash and he started buying up the things they would need. Betty touched her necklace, they'd learned it could conjure up an army of zombies. Clive had thrown him a key to his safehouse and he'd managed to get Cris Weddo's Voudou shop from him before Cris took off over the mountains. He clicked the key onto the hospital keys that Dutch had left him.

In downtown the city seemed eerie and empty. They stopped at the Voudou shop and turned the key, rummaging for supplies. It was him and Betty. He didn't mind the battle, but the city was so empty.

Their eyes met and the came to an agreement. Her hands fumbled over the amulet. She took a breath, her hands trembling. The shadows grew deeper. Quickly he took it from her. "Let me deal with death. I already owe him." He assured her and she looked relieved.

He turned it over in his hands, letting it poison his chi a little more. She grabbed his arm, and he looked up, to see the zombies rising up from the cemetery walls. These zombies were armed. He hoped he could control them.

A car raced onto the street. Ian Todd, Betty's older brother leaned out the window. "It's not safe here. Get in this car! We need you in South LA." He looked around at the growing army, panicked.

"I don't want to. I'm staying." She put her foot down.
"I need you Betty. In need you to lead an army." Ian told her.

Her eyes lit up. This was an adult opportunity. She looked at Thomas. "You'll be okay, won't you?" She asked.

He nodded.

"I'll be back." She told him, hoping into the car.

"Betty!" He reached for her. He had to tell her. He might never see her again.

She looked back at him, rolling down her window. "Yes?"

She seemed so happy. He stared at her, wanting to tell her he loved her. "Be safe." He said and moved toward the army, determined to control them. What could he offer her but this? Danger and death. He could feel her eyes on him as Ian's car drove off towards South LA.

He was alone, the city like a ghost, the dead surrounding him, empty hospital wards and empty shops. He felt how easy it would be to control the zombies as they grew closer. He wondered if he would be Storm Taken before this was over.

3:13 pm - West Los Angeles
The rats swirled around her, there were more than a thousand at her feet. Her little army had done their job, calling out the vermin of the city. She leaned down among the scared masses and began speaking... calm soothing words about victory - there would be cheese for the brave, places to sleep for the weary, and hope for a future for their rat babies in their nests. The Nazis would surely kill them, burning their homes and starving them. Some would survive but not everyone. "Look around," she told them. "It was always better to fight if someone was going to try to exterminate you."

Danni Reynolds counted her cash, she'd already sent her girls at the brothel packing. She could support her area, come what may. She'd managed to get some weapons, trading around at court and she gathered anyone the rats thought might be a solid ally. She began handing out weapons, giving instructions with the intelligence the rats had collected. She directed a group to the worst part of the city, where the Nazi's would have the easiest time getting in.

She didn't have a doctor. Dutch was across town. She prepared herself for the deaths that were going to come. Lycanthropes were no stranger to death.

3:02 pm - East Los Angeles
She was dead. He could see her everywhere, places they'd been, her beautiful image smiling down from the billboards. She was dead. Traitorous bitch.

Rafe Borgia had always intended to stay, to save the city, to fight till the end, but without her, knowing she'd given away the locations of the courts homes, their kids, their mothers, he was more than blue. He was dangerous.

He'd agreed immediately to protect East Los Angeles. He knew it would be hard. There was a good chance he'd die. War would take his mind off of her.

He spread the wad of cash in his pocket out among the people, got his men together. The mob could be called a lot of things, but they were red blooded patriots. Armed patriots. He had a couple of places in the area that he'd stored stuff. A restaurant, full of food, a flop house for his men, in case they had to go on the lam.

He was ready. He met with his lieutenants, set down plans and sent out some kids who'd been runners to scout out their neighborhoods. No one knew where they would strike. Police were their enemy and he could hear the sirens. He hoped it was fires. Then he remembered Will Bell would be gone by now, up in the mountains.

They would be blind to the threat with out intel. He saw Dr. Rob Daka coming out of the darkness, the shrink. The scary shrink. The man liked death, was ready to plunge his head into a barrel of sharks to get over his fear if he had to. It was a bad sign. Rob wouldn't have come to a place he didn't think was likely to test his fear of death. He rubbed his shoulder where his arm had been. They were as prepared as they were going to be. He was pretty sure he was going to die. The old otter was a harbinger of bad things.

2:44 pm - The Harbor - San Pedro
Things between Bella Kannon, hereditary otter and Hans Danske, cursed bear had calmed down. They'd needed to bolster their crews, Hans bellowing and Bella rallying, until they'd stopped fighting, working together to guard the Harbor. They suspected someone or something was luring their crews into fighting, three men had died. With the Japanese fleet blocking the harbor, there would be plenty of deaths at enemies hands.

Hans had intended to leave the city, but it was clear his ship was never going to leave the port. The Resistance had asked him to stay, to defend the Harbor. He felt strongly that he and Bella, who had better connections in San Pedro could defend it.

He took the money he'd gathered that night, it might be enough to pay for supplies, to bribe a few other boats. As the clocks clocks across the city began to toll, the night was shattered with gunfire and burning boats, sinking ships, sailors in the water swimming to safety.

The Dancing Trader, Hans ship had a loyal crew, they would make an excellent army. They'd served together under worse circumstances and were trained to fight.

Ian had been stashing supplies at the port, collecting things in his storage locker. He'd told Hans which locks to break and they quickly smashed open the barriers, getting into the storage of food stuffs, water, blankets, the basics.

Dr. Dutch Zimmerman had left his pact to be at the Harbor. He'd made sure he could get Elaina to safety, she was on the beach now, setting up. Now with his patented black bag he began assembling triage, shouting out orders to anyone without a weapon, to bring the bodies in.

They did not have the intel they would need to press on, but since they were the first battle front, they wouldn't be leaving unless the Japanese fleet did, which seemed very unlikely. They wondered, alone on the docks, how the rest were doing?

Bella slipped her ship out of the port, paying off her connections, and moved out into the bay. She and her crew would be needed elsewhere, out to sea. She wondered if she'd see Hans again. She assumed she would not.

Hans wife, Hannah slipped into the bay, her sleek legs turning into a fish fin. She plunged under the waves, seeking the mermaids. They had wrecked a thousand ships on a thousand shores, maybe this time she could help him too. Maybe despite the corruption that poisoned her blood and mind, maybe... they could be on the same side tonight of this battle.

11:57 am - The Beaches... after midnight
Fredrick Conselheiro, a resistance organizer from Europe prowled the area calling out to fightened citizens. Now was the time they would surely need to stand forth and fight for what mattered. Could they not see the lights from the detention center in Downtown? Where did they think they could go? Their children would not be safe under occupation.

Earnestly, passionately he rallied them until he had a force of men, women and children, building an army.

Jane Leda doled out cash, she had backers across the city, and Fredrick's resistance would need money.

Alex Han promised them real weapons from his factory as soon production was finished. Fredrick began recruiting through the streets anyone who could go to the factories, now closed for the night strike up the assembly line.

Ian Todd and Clive Phansanger, both native to the area had socked away supplies in the area, food, water, blankets, first aid kits. Just in case. They turned over the keys to Fredrick.

Elaina arrived late, clearly from another meeting, she agreed to stay with Fredrick, to help the wounded. She began rooting through the Safe Houses, searching for supplies. She was not a doctor, a good but basic nurse at best. She knew she wasn't prepared for this. She wondered how her pact fared. If the bonds of their oaths might need to be severed? If she would see them again?

Fredrick looked out over the city, nodding to the citizens who surrounded him. Inside he was worried, they lacked any knowledge of where the attack would come from. There were still Atreus' police force in the city, ready to lash out. Though they lacked a head, their leader, Sam Atreus, the Chief, was dead. Rumors had begun to circulate that his son, his heir Michael Atreus was also dead. This left an unknown, what sort of danger might rise up out of the Promethean House, who might be at the civic armies head?

11:52 am - Aftermath
Darkness was closing in as the sound of tanks and guns rocked Los Angeles. A glow from the Harbor of burning ships burned without end.

The resistance movement moved across the city, securing districts and trying to make something useful of their limited resources.

War had come.

11:54 am - June 17th, 2006 Game
June 1942, Japanese warships bombard the San Pedro harbor while Nazi tanks rolls up from Mexico. An alert to prepare for an attack in the next ten hours has been issued. The city of Los Angeles is blanketed in darkness, while bombers turn the golden streets of Hollywood to rubble. Four factions of animal shape-changers slip through the guarded streets, gathering in the catacombs, defying curfew to determine the fate of the city, who will rule them and if the city can be saved. Outside a freak rainstorm descends on the roads, calling forth a terrifying monster, able to move unseen in the flooded streets as the Los Angeles River spills over her banks, leaving a foul formaldehyde like smell in the air. An artifact of great power has been prophecies to appear tonight, if a warrior brave enough can reach it. Who will find it and what cost will its protection garner? Can it be connected to Charles Caer, daring English flying ace's emergency trip to the city and the sightings of his plane on fire, plummeting toward the forest? Rumors of saboteurs in the city abound, blaming recent explosions of the trolley system, while mercenaries gather to posture, looking for a wealthy patron, regardless of alliance and the Draft has moved into full swing. Gypsies, German-American and Japanese-American have been ordered to stay in the city and prepare to move to internment camps in the coming weeks while Latino shape-changers and their families, are being dragged off the streets by policemen. The constant clanking of men building detention centers sounds from the heart of downtown, given respite only by air raid sirens. Should you flee or fight for the city, knowing the animal changers are out numbered? Is it time to make an alliance with old enemies, or will they betray you again?

Renaissance Saga

Welcome to Renaissance Saga, the live-action dark fairytale role-playing game and LARP based on myth and legend, set in a modern day done darkly. In Beta-testing, Renaissance Saga is a fun and intriguing game of interactive quests, freedom fighting, politics and the eternal struggle of good to prevail over evil. As animal changers, gods and the fae war amongst themselves, a dark evil has blanketed the earth, imbuing a few mortal men with the supernatural power to enslave the world. Now in charge of the governments, as they fight amongst themselves on the eve of World War II. Will humanity's guides be able to set aside their differences long enough to save the world?

How to Get Involved

We will be running this game the evening of Saturday, June 17th, 2006 starting at 7pm, although one group of players will be asked to come early, for a private role-play scene, that takes place just before the game. We will be serving light appetizers and some drinks. The sight is in the Club House of a private complex so please arrive on time so that the organizers may escort you in and not be called away from storytelling to come and get you. Please read the characters listed below and send us a positive confirmation if you will attend and if you can arrive before 7pm. Please read the characters below and send us a list of your top three favorites numbered lowest to highest: i.e. 1) Will 2) Simon 3) Jim and we will confirm which character you will receive. We will try to provide you with your first choice, but are operating on a first confirm, first serve basis. Once you have RSVP'ed we will send you a character sheet and an informative background, full of secrets and ambitions. We ask that you RSVP as soon as possible, as we will be constructing interlocking backgrounds and appreciate the time to prepare your biographies. We will be adding background content for the game to our website as the weeks progress. Costuming will be standard 1940's, but we hope that no player will decline to attend for lack of a costume. We would rather have you come in modern attire, than not play at all. Please feel free to invite anyone you think would enjoy this role-playing experience. This is a live action game, done in a theater style with rock-paper-scissors used to adjudicate. Questions, concerns and character choices should be sent to 1940sLARP@brokenblade.org.
